In recent years, the share of agriculture in Angola's economy has grown rapidly and has become the main opportunity for economic diversification and food security. In order to make effective policy decisions and formulate sound and realistic development programmes, detailed and reliable statistics on agricultural, livestock and fisheries resources are needed through regular censuses and annual surveys. However, the last agricultural census in the country was conducted during the colonial era in the early 1970s. The project aimed to strengthen the technical and operational capacity of the national institutions responsible for agricultural statistics, and to provide technical assistance for the implementation of a Census of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (CALF).
