Food security means ensuring that all people at all times have access to the food they need for a healthy, active life. Increasing food production contributes to food security within communities and nations by making more food available and by generating employment and income. But increased production alone cannot guarantee food security. Increased income through value addition to agricultural raw materials is a way to conserve and market, and also to purchase food. This paper presents the chall enges and opportunities for rural infrastructure and agroindustries development in the Asia Pacific Region.
