The findings are presented of a survey conducted in February 1990 by the Institute for the Development of the Small-Scale Fishery to provide on the job training in the design, preparation, execution and data processing of frame surveys and at the same time provide information concerning the artisanal fisheries in the southern half of Sofala Province in Mozambique. Data were obtained regarding the characteristics and geographical distribution of fishing sites, the number and distribution of fishi ng units by type, the number of fishing units by gear type and by fishery type, and the estimated number of fishermen by fishery type.
