This paper utilizes data from a survey of 343 smallholders in northern Mozambique to
begin generating this knowledge, with three principal objectives: first, to describe the range of
food security strategies currently employed by rural smallholders in the study zones; second, to
identify and explore those factors most closely associated with varying levels of income and
consumption among these smallholders; and third, to discuss and clarify the policy implications
of these findings for Mozambique.
