As part of the Strengthening Avian Influenza Detection and Response (SAIDR) project in Egypt which was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), a number of training courses in highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) participatory disease surveillance (PDS) later elaborated to be Community based Animal Health Outreach (CAHO) have been conducted for 108 veterinarians (making 54 teams) in 15 governorates. The purpose of this manual is to provide a reference for vet erinarians during and after CAHO training. The main focus of the manual is on HPAI but the methods can be easily adapted and applied to address other livestock diseases.
