No-tillage is a sustainable farming method where crops are sown directly into untilled soil, leaving previous crop residues on the field as protective mulch. This practice eliminates plowing, saving up to eighty percent of fuel and sixty percent of sowing time compared to conventional tillage.By improving soil organic matter and structure, no-tillage enhances water infiltration and retention, reducing irrigation needs by twenty to thirty percent. The mulch layer suppresses weeds, prevents erosion, and helps crops withstand drought. Over time, yields can increase by fifteen to twenty percent.The catalogue covers essential components such as seed drills, weed management, and a step-by-step methodology. It includes a comparison of different drill types, from manual jab planters for small plots to tractor-mounted options.Designed for rice and maize systems in the Lao People's Democratic Republic, no-tillage offers a practical pathway to healthier soils, lower costs, and greater climate resilience.
