Descripción
When soyabean was intercropped with maize in one to three alternating rows, yields of maize and soyabean decreased from 3.43 and 1.57 tonnes/ha respectively in pure stands to 2.47 tonnes and 0.51 tonnes with the highest maize density and 1.38 tonnes and 1.08 tonnes with the least maize density. The land equivalent ratio means ranged from 1.04-1.09 and were stable for spatial arrangements and planting periods with no signfficant dffirences. With pooled data, the monetary equivalent ratio increased with the proportion of maize from 0.74 to 0.94 except at the maximum soyabean price. Sole soyabean generated 49-897o of the revenue of sole maize at the dffirent price levels of soyabean. The intercrops were more remunerative than sole soyabean, regardless of the price scenario and better than sole maize in economic fficiency only at maximum soyabean price. However, intercropping soyabean and maize may still be acceptable to farmers from resource fficiency and monetary viewpoints at the dffirent price levels
