The objective of this work was to prove if by means of applying the methodology of participatory varietal selection and farmer experimentation in urban agriculture in San José de las Lajas, Havana province and Arroyo Naranjo, Havana City, it is possible to introduce, adopt and disseminate crop biodiversity in plantains and bananas (Musa spp) in plots and yards. Results showed the possibilities provided by participatory methodologies to introduce and adopt materials from a fruit agrobiodiversity fair and the material selection differences according to the selection approaches and peculiar contexts of each municipality. These results also offer the first specific evidences of this type of experiences under an urban environment and for this type of crop.
