This factsheet provides an overview of turmeric (Curcuma longa) as the nominated special agricultural product (SAP) for Fiji under the One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) initiative. The factsheet outlines the agroclimatic conditions suitable for wild turmeric cultivation across Fiji's islands, particularly Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. It details the nutritional profile and health benefits of turmeric, including its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties. With around 90% harvested from forests and the remaining cultivated by smallholders which are further processed to produce turmeric powder. The turmeric powder is exported to markets like the U.S while some domestic consumption occurs. It identifies opportunities for investment under OCOP such as promoting sustainable production, developing processing technologies, product promotion, and increasing domestic consumption.
