The objective of this work was to evaluate the productive potential of maize S1 lines in crossing with testers of different heterotic group, with focus in the development of superior hybrids for the second season ("safrinha") of maize in Brazil, using the methodology of mixed models. The results show that the testers 482041 (Flint) and 5702955 (Dent) were the ones that resulted in a higher productivity in crossing with lineages of opposite heterotic group. There was no coincidence in the ranking of the lineages in the evaluation environments, being necessary the development of specific cultivars for each locality.
