This brief provides a synthesis of key findings on forest area estimation, forest area change, and the underlying drivers of deforestation and forest degradation, generated under the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida)-funded project Global Transformation of Forests for People and Climate in West Africa. Implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in close collaboration with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and national institutions, the project supports 15 West African countries in strengthening their forest and land use monitoring systems.
