dc.descriptionThe blog examines non-market approaches (NMAs) in climate action, based on cooperative strategies outside carbon markets as outlined in Article 6.8 of the Paris Agreement. Through CGIAR’s Low-Emission Food Systems team, real-world NMA examples in conflict-affected areas, like Colombia’s “obras por impuestos” and Bolivia’s Brazil nut production, illustrate NMAs' potential for emissions reduction and resilience building. COP28 insights underscore NMAs as essential complements to carbon markets, yet further dialogue is needed to fully operationalize these approaches in diverse contexts.
