Since 1951, Italy has hosted FAO’s headquarters, becoming an integral part of its history and culture. As a key partner, Italy plays a fundamental role in supporting FAO’s mission to reduce poverty and eradicate hunger and malnutrition throughout the world.Despite the longstanding and significant partnership between Italy and FAO, both MAECI and FAO felt that increased and more in-depth information was needed to support Italian public understanding of the joint work conducted. The Government of Italy wished to promote a series of events to celebrate World Food Day (WFD) and involving the United Nations agencies located in Rome, international organizations located in Italy, public administrations, local authorities, universities, school and other institutions, in an attempt to raise public awareness regarding hunger and poverty issues worldwide and to emphasize the need to transform agrifood systems to ensure food and healthy diets for all.Furthermore, the Government of Italy wished to amplify the visibility, as well as the key role of the Italian Development Cooperation, in the fight against hunger and malnutrition.
