Descripción
The paper identifies innovative funding mobilization and financing mechanisms for fisheries and aquaculture value chains (FAVCs), and the contribution of the FISH4ACP programme in facilitating these mechanisms. The paper is informed by: a review of literature including FISH4ACP programme reports on funding mobilization and financing mechanisms of FAVCs; and an analysis of primary data collected from coordinators of 12 VCs being supported by the FISH4ACP programme. Literature and results from the analysis show that traditional sources of funding are no longer adequate and sustainable, while investments required to transform the FAVCs are significant, with a resulting huge funding gap. Despite the emergence of innovative funding mechanisms such as blended finance, which a few developing countries like Seychelles and Indonesia are using to finance the development of their FAVCs, the FISH4ACP programme countries have so far continued to use traditional funding sources.
