The electronic newsletter from the FAO Representation in Georgia features the following articles: 1. Georgia cooperates with FAO for more sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. The letter of agreement was signed for Georgia by Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili. FAO Deputy Director-General for Climate and Natural Resources Maria Helena Semedo signed for FAO, on behalf of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean. 2. The National Statistics Office of Georgia has started a pilot survey on aquaculture holdings. This survey on aquacultures is a part of the “Strategic Plan for Agricultural, Environmental and Rural Statistics of Georgia 2016 – 2020” and will be the first of its kind in Georgia. 3. Sustainable forest management is focus of regional meeting in Tbilisi. Prior to 2016, no country in the Caucasus or Central Asia had developed indicators to monitor sustainable forest management on a national level. Two years later, five countries – Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan – are on board with a project from FAO and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) to establish accountability systems for forest management. 4. Georgian milk producers learn from Italy and the United States. For the last few years, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have been working to help Georgia’s dairy farmers to boost milk productivity and quality.
