dc.descriptionRESUMO - Touros Nelore (n=10), com histórico seminal conhecido e mantidos em condições extensivas foram classificados de acordo em aptos (AP, n=4) e não aptos (NAP, n=6). Após colheita por eletroejaculação o sêmen foi avaliado quanto a motilidade, vigor, morfologia espermática, fragmentação nuclear (análise citoquímica) e morfometria da cabeça espermática (comprimento, largura, base e área total, excluindo os com defeitos de cabeça). Todas as medidas morfométricas foram inferiores (p<0,01) para os touros classificados como NAP, sugerindo variações na conformação nuclear oriundas da espermiogênese. A análise da correlação revelou que os touros com melhor qualidade seminal (AP) apresentaram parâmetros mais homogêneos quanto a morfometria espermática. Porém, para os touros com menor qualidade seminal houve maior correlação entre parâmetros morfométricos e seminais, mostraram que a presença de espermatozóides mais largos na região superior (r=0,48) de maior comprimento (r=0,42) ou de menor base (r=-0,48) foram mais suscetíveis à fragmentação nuclear. A morfometria espermática favorece análises mais detalhadas do espermatozóide e pode ser útil na elucidação de vários fenômenos que afetam a espermatogênese. As correlações encontradas com a fragmentação nuclear mostram a necessidade da introdução de métodos mais acurados para a avaliação seminal. ABSTRACT - Nelore bulls (n=10) with seminal historical known and maintained in extensive conditions were classified in acceptable (AC, n=4) and not acceptable (NAC, n=6). After collect for electroejaculation the semen was evaluated for the motility, vigor, sperm morphology, nuclear fragmentation (cytochemistry analysis) and different measurements of the sperm head (length, width, base and total area, excluding the head’s defects). All the morphometrics measures were lower (p <0,01) for the NAP bulls, suggesting variations in the nuclear configuration originating from spermiogenesis. The analysis of the correlation revealed that bulls with better seminal quality (AC) presented sperm morphometry more homogeneous. However, for the NAC bulls there was larger correlation among morphometrics parameters and seminal variables. They showed that the superior width (r=0,48) length (r=0,42) and base measurements (r=-0,48) were more susceptible to the nuclear fragmentation. The sperm morphometry allow more detailed analyses of the spermatozoa and it can be useful in the elucidation of several phenomena that affect the spermiogenesis. The correlations found with the nuclear fragmentation demonstrate the need of the more accurate methods for the seminal evaluation.
