| dc.description | In 2008, the dairy sector accounted for about 17 percent of Kazakhstan’s agricultural gross domestic product (GDP) and 38 percent of its livestock GDP.1 For the last ten years, the annual volume of milk production has been increasing by an average of 4.5 percent, and has almost returned to the 1990 level (Figure 1). This growth is related mostly to increases in the cow population and in the demand for milk and dairy products (MDPs). Cow productivity has remained stable throughout the country, a t an average of 2 253 litres per lactation period. | |
