The agricultural sector, which employs over 70 percent of the Gambia’s workforce, is a key driver of economic growth and a promising avenue for youth-led micro and small enterprises (MSEs). The living wage and business calculator is a user-friendly, spreadsheet-based tool designed to help young agri-entrepreneurs estimate costs, revenues and risks for sustainable agribusinesses. This brief provides step-by-step instructions for using the calculator, tailored to 2025 rural conditions, with a living wage benchmark of GMD 18 518 per month, This number is informed by focus group discussions with young agri-entrepreneurs and a light application of the Anker Methodology, a tool used for estimating a sufficient wage for a decent standard of living.
