Albania’s dairy sector is characterized by small-scale farms, fragmented and high-cost production, inadequate feeding practices, and a lack of capacity to ensure safety and hygiene standards. Despite these issues, there is great potential in the sector, and the government has expressed a desire to create a dairy development programme with the ultimate goal of improving standards, increasing the sector’s competitiveness as well as the incomes of dairy producers, and substituting imported dairy products with domestic ones. To support the government in achieving its goal of developing the dairy sector, this Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) project was formulated. It aimed to assess and create a deeper understanding of the dairy value chain in Albania and to equip farmers with essential knowledge and skills to maintain high standards of hygiene, optimize feeding practices, and improve marketing strategies for their dairy products.
