En 2024, IICA fortaleció en Costa Rica la resiliencia climática, la innovación y la competitividad agropecuaria. Destaca la implementación del proyecto regional Energía Rural, que desarrolló siete iniciativas de eficiencia energética y capacitó a más de 80 personas en energías limpias, beneficiando comunidades rurales e indígenas. Se concluyó el proyecto Sistemas Agroforestales Adaptados para el Corredor Seco Centroamericano, que brindó asistencia técnica a 39 organizaciones, apoyó a 1.729 productores, capacitó a 3.668 personas y promovió innovaciones tecnológicas y digitales, así como el programa juvenil Reto Joven: Revolución Agricultura 4.0. Se desarrolló una aplicación de subastas virtuales mayoristas para modernizar mercados agropecuarios y se impulsó la mesa interinstitucional Nueva Turrialba-Jiménez como modelo de desarrollo territorial. Además, se fortaleció la bioseguridad frente al gusano barrenador, se apoyó la competitividad del queso Turrialba con denominación de origen y se promovió la digitalización mediante el FabLab, incluyendo congresos, formación en tecnologías geoespaciales y una invención en proceso de patente.
In 2024, IICA strengthened climate resilience, innovation, and agrifood competitiveness in Costa Rica. The Regional Rural Energy project implemented seven energy efficiency initiatives and trained over 80 people in clean energy solutions, benefiting rural and Indigenous communities. The Adapted Agroforestry Systems for the Central American Dry Corridor project was successfully completed, providing technical support to 39 organizations, assisting 1,729 producers, training 3,668 participants, and promoting technological and digital innovations, including the youth program Reto Joven: Agricultura 4.0. IICA developed a virtual wholesale auction platform to modernize agricultural markets and supported the Nueva Turrialba-Jiménez interinstitutional initiative as a replicable territorial development model. Biosecurity actions against the New World screwworm were strengthened, while the competitiveness of Turrialba cheese with denomination of origin was enhanced. Through the FabLab, IICA advanced digitalization efforts, organizing technology events, geospatial training initiatives, and securing intellectual property protection for a new innovation supporting agricultural digital transformation.
