The Solar Irrigation for Agricultural Resilience (SoLAR) Phase II project builds on Phase I (2019–2024) achievements in South Asia and expands to East Africa to strengthen south–south collaboration for socially inclusive, climate-resilient solar agri-tech solutions. Implemented across India, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Kenya, Phase II responds to persistent Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) barriers, including limited land and asset ownership, unequal access to technology, finance, and markets, high unpaid care burdens, gender-blind technology design, and exclusion from governance processes. GESI is embedded as a core program principle, ensuring meaningful participation of women, youth, indigenous peoples, and marginalized farmers. The strategy adopts a flexible, country-responsive approach tailored to local socio-economic, environmental, and gender contexts. Through inclusive policies, innovative financing, accessible technologies, and leadership development, Phase II aims to enable 50,000 women and marginalized farmers to benefit from solar solutions, contributing to a projected 35% increase in farm income and more equitable agrarian transformation.
