Details are given of a Geographic Information System, developed within project activities regarding countries along the West Coast of Africa, which enables the spatio-temporal exploration of fleets and their production tools (boats, gear, fishermen). The model proposed constitutes a prototype common to numerous countries, which aims to be the nucleus of a future regional database. The entities and program modules may be adjusted by the various institutions utilizing it and then eventually be ado pted at a regional level. The model responds to the need for a unique tool which may be adapted to all types of data available in the countries involved in the project; it uses a data processing interface which unites FOXPRO and ARC VIEW 2.
