Impediments to normal trade flows are resulting in a substantial drop in food supply from the Ivory Coast and sharp increases in food prices. The growing political crisis and widespread violence in Ivory Coast are forcing thousands of people to Liberia where UNHCR estimates some 25,000 refugees are in need of emergency humanitarian assistance. Increased food insecurity is attributable to high demand and restricted food inflows from Ivory Coast. Previous government policies on trade and social schemes are still in place.
