The development of this guidance note was motivated by numerous calls to improve the availability of globally comparable and population-level data on food biodiversity, in particular, wild species and neglected and underutilized species (NUS). Attention to these resources has been scarce in policy and planning, but there are clearopportunities to optimize their contribution to health, biodiversity, and climate. The guidance is aimed at survey planners and managers across sectors, health and development practitioners conducting monitoring and evaluation on nutrition outcomes, researchers and decision-makers interested in wild foods and NUS, biodiversity and forests, climate-resilient and nutrition-sensitive policies and programmes to improve nutrition and food security and enhance the sustainability of food production.
