Resumen

Descripción

The use of pesticides in low and middle-income countries poses large risks for both human health and the environment. Suboptimal national capacities and resources to soundly manage pesticides throughout their life cycle, lack of awareness at decision-making level and inadequate decision support systems are the main barriers to addressing these risks. Against this background, the project aimed to support the implementation of the FAO/World Health Organization (WHO) International Code of Conduct on Pesticide Management, which sets standards and establishes voluntary norms for pesticide management. This involved preparing key guidelines, as prioritized by the FAO\WHO Joint Meeting on Pesticide Management, contributing to the development of a web-based pesticide registration toolkit, and advancing initiatives to expedite the phasing out of highly hazardous pesticides (HHPs).
