El sello verde es una etiqueta que conlleva información sobre el impacto ambiental de producir, cosechar, procesar, transportar y consumir un producto. La certificación es el proceso que garantiza la veracidad de lo que indica el sello. Hay tres "escuelas" de certificación agrícola: 1) orgánica, 2) comercio justo y 3) conservacionista. Cabe esperar que los programas de certificación se incrementen en el futuro, porque hay mucho interés en ellos por parte de los consumidores e implican múltiples beneficios para los productores. A “green seal” or “ecolabel” provides information to consumers about the environmental impact of producing, harvesting, processing, transporting and/or consuming a product. “Certification” is the process that guarantees the truthfulness of what is on the label. There are three “schools” of agricultural certification: 1) Organic, 2) Fair trade and 3) Conservationist. It is thought that these certification programs will increase in the future because consumers demand them and producers benefit from them.
