The Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (GAP) is the world’s blueprint for tackling the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which threatens many of the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on health, food security, environmental wellbeing and socio-economic development. Adopted by the membership of WHO, FAO and OIE in 2015, the GAP was further endorsed in 2016 during the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.
The framework for monitoring and evaluation of the GAP aims to provide a manageable system to assess the success of the GAP and inform operational and strategic decision making on AMR for the next five to ten years. This framework will enhance the availability and quality of data, consolidate data collection and reporting requirements – especially for human health – and increase accountability. Rooted in experience and expertise across diverse sectors, this initiative will also underpin the forthcoming global development and stewardship framework for AMR.
