A pilot Intensive Agricultural Development Program, popularly known as IADP, or Package Program,
was undertaken by India in cooperation with the Ford Foundation in 1960. It was designed for
participation by all farmers in selected districts. Assistance in adoption of a locally adapted "package"
of improved technology was to be combined with adequate supplies of fertilizer and other inputs,
credit to buy them, and assurance of remunerative prices. The program was only partially implemented
and many unforeseen problems were encountered, but considerable progress was made before the advent
of higher yielding seeds. The program has led in adoption of new research results, including the
new seeds.
