In the present study, we investigated the hypothesis that Tetranychus urticae (Koch) would show higher populations on the grape variety, Sugraone, where this species is more frequently found, whereas Oligonychus punicae (Hirst) would exhibit higher populations on the grape variety, Italia, where this mite species is more commonly observed. To test this hypothesis, we evaluated the population performance of both mite species on these two grape varieties. To achieve this, the following parameters were estimated and compared: (1) the development of immature stages, longevity of adults, reproduction, and fertility life-table parameters; and (2) the preference of T. urticae and O. punicae for Sugraone and Italia. Notably, both species completed their developmental cycles on Sugraone and Italia, with the development time of O. punicae being 7% longer on Sugraone. The cumulative number of adults of both species occurred earlier on Italia. The total viability of T. urticae was longer on Italia, whereas the longevity of both species was longer on Sugraone. For T. urticae, the number of oviposition days and total oviposition were longer on Sugraone. The oviposition rate of O. punicae peaked on Italia. However, for this species, the mean generation time (T) was longer on Sugraone. Neither of the species showed a preference for either Sugraone or Italia. Overall, this information may be useful for the development of effective pest mite management programs for grapevine cultivation
