Following a request by the Seychelles Government to the COI/EU (SmartFish Programme) to prepare a strategic document on a new fisheries policy for Seychelles, M. Joseph Catanzano (international consultant), and M. Joel Nageon de Lestang (national consultant), have been recruited. In order to carry out this assignment the consultants have met with the major stakeholders involved in fisheries to (i) identify the main priorities of the fishing sector and (ii) propose recommendations in order to dra w a roadmap so as to implement these priorities. This strategy will emphasize the potential economic value of marine resources (wealth of the fisheries), the management process and the human capacity necessary for the implementation of the fisheries policy.
