It puts forward a case for the strategic role of sustainable forest management (SFM) in achieving long-term climate change mitigation and as a robust and flexible framework for effective adaptation to climate change. It presents what is intended to be a living concept of cooperation that will be enriched over time. It should help pave the road to the pivota l 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and to the 8th session of the United Nations Forum on Forests.
