Tonga and Vanuatu are highly exposed to a number of naturalhazards (including cyclones, drought, floods, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and tsunamis); as well as being particularly vulnerableto the effects of climate change. Against this background, it wasnecessary to strengthen the institutional capacities of nationalauthorities in the delivery of services and tools for disaster riskreduction (DRR) in agriculture; and support the identificationand dissemination of good practices for DRR for food and nutritionsecurity among subsistence farming communities in the twocountries.
