This note aims to inform technical staff responsible for forest reference emission level and/or forest reference level (FREL/FRL) construction about the use, and potential added value and/or limitations, of spatial modeling. It explains the underlying concepts that spatial models apply and discusses how FREL/ FRL construction could be affected by such models, illustrating their application with country examples.
