Resumen
Descripción
This document contains detailed information on economic and political events that have occurred over time in Southland, an imaginary developing country1. The vicissitudes of Southland, analysed in a historical perspective, may be taken as a paradigm of socio-political and economic factors, both internal and external, that have influenced development successes and failures in a number of low to middle income countries in the South of the planet, with special reference to agriculture, rural develo pment and food security. They reflect changes that may have taken place in policy and planning orientation in a typical developing country - and the challenges, internal and external, that have confronted such a country and continue to confront it.
