dc.descriptionInicialmente, la Diarrea Viral Bovina (O.V.B.) se describió como una entidad de alta morbilidad y alta mortalidad del tubo digestivo de los rumiantes domésticos y silvestres (Barker y Vandremel, 1985). Sin embargo, posteriormente se demostró que además de su tropismo por las estructuras linfoides y el tracto gastrointestinal, el virus es capaz de desencadenar síndromes reproductivos que quizás tienen repercusiones sanitarias y económicas más importantes que las causadas por la enfermedad de las mucosas; estos síndromes incluyen infertilidad, mortalidad embrionaria, aborto y efectos teratogénicos entre otros (Archbald, 1981; Barker y Vandremel, 1985). Por tanto, probablemente los efectos negativos de mayor repercusión de la enfermedad desde el punto de vista sanitario y económico para el ganado bovino son aquéllos relacionados con las fallas en la reproducción y la capacidad inmunodepresora del virus, efectos que han sido demostrados ampliamente por muchos investigadores (Bolin et al., 1985; Jubb et al., 1985; Potgieter et al.,1984).
