Resumen

Descripción

The April 2026 issue of the publication summarizes key market developments and policy changes in 2025, along with a preliminary outlook for 2026. The review shows that world meat production rose in 2025, supported by higher slaughter levels linked to herd liquidation in key producing countries, relatively lower feed costs compared to the previous year and firm consumer demand for animal protein at the global level. World meat trade expanded in 2025, underpinned by robust import demand, despite tight export availabilities, animal disease outbreaks and evolving trade policy measures. Strong import demand and limited export supplies of bovine and ovine meats drove the FAO Meat Price Index to record highs in 2025. By contrast, pig and poultry meat prices declined slightly, reflecting ample availabilities. Uncertainty surrounding trade policies and animal disease outbreaks contributed to market volatility, with mixed effects across regions and meat categories.
