The CAP 2020 introduces many relevant changes in the direct support to farmers. One of
the key issues is the growing role of Member States in tailoring the new direct payments in
accordance to equity criteria. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the national
models implementing the direct payments as well as to highlight the specific tools
used in order to secure a fairer distribution of farmers’ support.
