Resumen
Descripción
Forests cover approximately 60 percent of Fiji’s total land area and are central to national climate resilience. However, climate change, together with deforestation and forest degradation linked mainly to agricultural expansion and infrastructure development, is placing these ecosystems at risk. These pressures negatively affect ecosystems from ridge to reef and threaten the capacity of forests to function as carbon sinks, undermining Fiji’s pathway towards sustainable development and zero net emissions as articulated in the Low Emissions Development Strategy. The GCF full proposal package would comprise the funding proposal in the GCF template and a set of required annexes, including the National Designated Authority (NDA) no-objection letter, feasibility study, detailed budget, environmental and social management plan, gender assessment and action plan, indigenous peoples action plan, risk assessment and management, economic and financial analysis, stakeholder consultations and stakeholder engagement plan, co-finance letters, term sheet and legal due diligence documentation. The project significantly strengthened the Government of Fiji’s capacity to implement FLR in a programmatic approach, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from forests and enhancing the resilience of forest-dependent communities to climate change. By developing and submitting the full GCF funding proposal, including all required technical, environmental and social assessments, the project established a robust foundation for mobilizing climate finance to support sustainable FLR interventions at scale.
