Descripción
More than 50 years of conflict left Colombia struggling with violence, a lack of services and infrastructure, millions of displaced people and high levels of poverty. Fostering inclusive economic growth in rural areas is critical to tackling sources of conflict. The first goal of Colombia’s Peace Accord is a Comprehensive Rural Reform to improve food security, income, job opportunities and social cohesion, as well as governance of land tenure and other natural resources. FAO is supporting the Colombian government in implementing the peace deal, but there are challenges in rural areas, where there is little institutional reach. This programme will support and strengthen rural institutions, helping deliver on rural development for the poorest, which is vital to the peace process.
