Improving animal health is imperative for sustainable livestock production, with wider implications for environmental preservation and human nutrition. It is not only about food security but also a step towards safeguarding human health via a One Health approach that unifies strategy that aims to sustainably balance and optimise the health of people, animals, and the environment. Livestock production significantly contributes to global greenhouse gas emissions, with ruminants being major contributors due mainly to the methane they produce. This policy brief underscores the interconnectedness of cattle health, methane emissions, and food security. Improving animal health will curb global warming, advance national climate commitments, bolster livestock adaptation to climate change, and increase the production of animal-sourced food.
