dc.descriptionOver the past decade, Somalia, particularly Puntland and Somaliland, has experienced worsening climate change impacts, including prolonged droughts, reduced rainfall, and declining agricultural productivity. These environmental shocks have forced many pastoralist communities to seek alternative livelihoods, with irrigated crop production, especially date palm farming, emerging as a promising option. However, agriculture in the region faces significant challenges, such as limited water resources, outdated farming practices, and weak institutional capacity. Against this background, the project was designed to assess and evaluate the socioeconomic impacts and the extent to which date palm production is affected in Somaliland and Puntland. Solutions for the sustainable management of RPW were already available in other regions of the world, but they needed to be adapted for the Somali context. At the same time, the project aimed to raise awareness of regenerative agriculture and encourage the adoption of more sustainable methods of utilizing scarce crop production resources under oasis agricultural conditions.
