| dc.description | Imported rice prices have remained high during the reporting period due to high international food and fuel prices, high transportation costs and increased seasonal demand. Food security conditions were particularly worrisome for poor and vulnerable groups in the northern and southern districts bordering Cote d'Ivoire. Agencies describe the situation of hunger as alarming with widespread lack of access to food. The number of refugees increased in the past few months putting increased strengt h on hosting communities in a time when food availability was low and market access greatly constrained by high food prices. The Government has been supporting food prices through the suspension of import duty on rice, while emergency programs are assisting vulnerable and food insecure groups. | |
