In recent years, global shocks such as climate events, the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine crisis have significantly disrupted food systems worldwide, compounding existing stresses and challenges. In response to these disruptions, FAO has conducted a comprehensive global study that targets all food system stakeholders, including local governments. For this study, in-depth case studies were conducted in 11 cities across Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America to provide detailed insights into how food system actors respond to multiple shocks and stresses. Through interviews and focus groups, the case studies capture diverse perspectives and explore the complexities of building resilience in specific contexts. This publication highlights the unique approach of resilience-building efforts in Rome, Italy.
