This paper presents a synthesis of the main economic, social and environmental sustainability issues of agrifood systems and key drivers of agrifood system’s unsustainability. It shows how impacts can be linked to a specific product, and illustrates differences in impacts between products, practices and places. Throughout the paper, sustainability impacts are analysed through a “product–practice–place” lens.
