| dc.description | This report summarizes discussions and insights from an IWMI-organized special session at the XIX IWRA World Water Congress, focusing on how to scale water solutions in an increasingly water-scarce world. It highlights the growing pressures on water and food systems due to climate change, population growth, and resource constraints, and emphasizes the need to move beyond pilot projects toward system-level scaling of proven innovations. The report presents CGIAR’s Scaling for Impact (S4I) approach, which integrates demand signaling, co-design of scaling pathways, design of financial facilities, partnerships, and enabling environments to support the adoption of water innovations, including solar-based irrigation, climate-resilient systems, and digital tools. Drawing on experiences from Africa, Asia (especially success stories), and the MENA region, it underscores the importance of inclusive, demand-driven scaling pathways that engage local actors, women, and youth. Key insights from the session identify finance as the primary barrier to scaling, alongside fragmented institutions, limited capacity, and weak alignment with local contexts. The report also emphasizes the need to anticipate unintended consequences at scale and to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders. Overall, it highlights the role of IWMI and CGIAR in bridging science, policy, and investment to achieve sustainable and equitable water solutions at scale. | |
