Catch documentation schemes (CDS) are tools to trace fisheries products from sea to market. They are systems designed to ensure that fisheries products are harvested in a manner consistent with national, regional and international conservation and management measures all along the supply chain. They improve traceability, thereby contributing to the protection of living marine resources and building trust in the seafood trade. Since permanent CDS came into force in 2024 for turbot and red coral, several countries have benefitted from their implementation. The European Union and its Member States, as well as Türkiye, have markedly improved the verifiable quality and sustainability of their fisheries by developing innovative solutions to further improve the image of fisheries products. Examples include Impadon, the French online database that gathers all phytosanitary requirements applicable to imports managed by FranceAgriMer and the Fisheries Information System (SUBIS) implemented by Türkiye to monitor and manage fisheries data.
