High dependence on rainfed cropland is one of the significant drivers of food insecurity in Asia Pacific, as climatic and seasonal shocks are more frequent due to climate change. Rainfed and irrigated cropland areas were mapped to assess the Nature Based Solutions indicators and food security in Viet Nam. Cropland data was obtained by training a machine learning model and classifying 2021 satellite imageries (Planet, Sentinel 1 & 2), and the results were obtained at 5m spatial resolution. Further, the cropland was separated into irrigated and rainfed through the vegetation index.
