dc.descriptionSe analizaron los factores biofísicos y socioeconómicos que pudieron haber incidido sobre el diseño y manejo del dosel de sombra en 29 cafetales de Turrialba, Costa Rica. Se utilizaron varios procedimientos multivariados para identificar tipos de cafetales y para evaluar la importancia relativa de los factores en la diferenciación entre tipos. Se recomienda realizar un análisis de componentes principales para seleccionar factores, seguido de análisis de conglomerados y, finalmente, análisis discriminante canónico. Se identificaron cuatro tipos de cafetales, los que difieren en términos de la composición del dosel de sombra y de la intensidad del manejo del cafetal. The biophysical and socioeconomic factors that may have influenced the design and management of the shade canopy of 29 coffee plantations in Turrialba, Costa Rica were analyzed. Various multivariate procedures were used to identify the different types of coffee plantations and to evaluate the relative importance of these factors in differentiating between types. It is recommended that principal component analysis be used to select the factors, followed by a cluster analysis and finally, canonical discriminant analysis. Four types of coffee plantations were identified, based on differences in the composition of the shade canopy and the intensity of management of the coffee plantation.
