Climate extremes, conflict and a poor economic environment continue to drive humanitarian needs in South Sudan, where over half of the population is acutely food insecure. Around 95 percent of South Sudanese have agriculture‑based livelihoods. Poor agropastoral families struggle with low production, low income and too few assets to sustain themselves. They urgently need agricultural support to restore their food security.
This document provides an overview of FAO's component of the 2023 Humanitarian Response Plan for South Sudan. FAO requires USD 65 million to assist over 6 million people in South Sudan in 2023.
