Since the end of March 2022, Uganda's border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo has experienced high levels of displacement due to the escalation of violence in North Kivu province. As a result, 125 042 new arrivals were recorded in Uganda in November 2022, of whom 83 804 were from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. People crossing the border are generally received in reception centres before being relocated to established settlements. In addition to the situation described above, the Ministry of Health in Uganda declared an outbreak of Sudan Ebolavirus (EVD) in September 2022. A multisectoral rapid needs assessment (RNA) was conducted, focusing on the humanitarian and medium-term needs of the new refugee arrivals in Nakivale and Rhino Camp settlements. The RNA showed that the main sectoral needs and serious gaps were related to food security, with the need for assistance in accessing food being the most urgent. The RNA indicated that more than 65 percent of the new arrivals reported agriculture as their main source of income back in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and highlighted the need for inputs to enable them to resume food production.
